Chiefs HC Andy Reid Provides Injury Updates Ahead Of Wednesday Practice

The Kansas City Chiefs will have their first practice of the week ahead of their Week 6 game against the Washington Football Team.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid addressed the media, giving his usual pre-practice injury update on Wednesday, giving reporters the rundown on players who would and wouldn’t take the practice field. The injuries are beginning to pile up for Kansas City, with a few new players joining the injury list this week.

A total of six players won’t participate in practice with various ailments according to Reid.

“Hitch (Anthony Hitchens) won’t practice today,” Reid said. “He’s got knee inflammation. Charvarius Ward with a quad strain. Blake Bell’s back tightened up on him, so he won’t practice. Tyreek Hill has a quad contusion that happened during the game, he played through it, so we’ll back off him. Then Chris Jones with the wrist contusion and Joe Thuney with the broken hand.”

Hitchens and Bell are among the new injuries, but one injury that we did know about was Thuney’s broken hand. Asked whether the starter at left guard was a candidate to go on injured reserve, Reid seemed optimistic it wouldn’t keep him out long.

“Probably not right now,” Reid said of Thuney potentially going to injured reserve. “He just did the walkthrough with us. I think we’ll just give him a little time for that thing to settle down and I think we’ll have a chance to be OK.”

Jones’ wrist still seems to be an issue heading into this week after missing every practice last week. Asked about his concern level over Jones’ injury, Reid was blunt.

“Where he feels comfortable to where he can play,” Reid said. “That’s literally it. When he feels that, then he can do his job and he’ll be back in. But he’s getting better, though.”

Overall, Reid was optimistic that some of these players would return to action, possibly even later this week.

“It seems like a long list,” Reid said. “But I think when it’s all said and done, we’ll be able to get guys back here in the next little bit. Which is a positive thing.”
